Having bought a Canon Camera I found that the battery Pack was an individually produced part and a replacement could not be easily sourced, even from the retailer that sold it in the first place. I eventually managed to track this item down in Amazon, but was absolutely shocked at the price of over £50 for a disposable part of what was already and expensive camera. (Now down to under £30 I understand - Still too expensive!!!)
I give Amazon 5 Stars because they were able to provide what was a very hard to find battery pack.
I give Canon 1 Star for not providing stocks of suitable replacement disposable parts and for charging ridiculous prices for batteries that are unique to a particular camera and can not be obtained through regular sources.
The battery itself gets 5 Stars for the many years of service that the old unit provided.Canon NB-1LH Battery Pack

I've had my Canon Ixus V digital camera for 8 years now. It's covered a lot of ground in that time. Like many people I always keep a spare battery ready to roll to avoid blackouts.
Over recent months battery life has been reducing so I decided to try a newer spare - one with the same 3.7v rating but with a higher mAh rating than my ancient (680mAh) batteries.
What can you say - order and delivery were quick and easy and I've been using this battery for a month now. One happy bunny - Job done!

I purchased this battery to replace the original Canon battery that came with my Ixus 500. After 4 years of service with a fair bit of use i was getting only a handfull of images before the battery was draining. I have also used a non Canon battery as a spare, but there really is no comparison. The Canon battery out performs the non genuine replacement. Recommended product.

You absolutely do need a second battery for your camera if you are at all serious about photography. I bought the Canon Ixus 500 and this battery as a spare. I wouldn't be without it.Basically its essential. This one (identical to the one supplied with the camera) is reliable, fast to charge, and lasts a couple of days (or 100 or so photos) in my experience. Its not exciting, but it is worth the 30 quid or so.

I am the happy owner of a Digital Ixus 500. This accessory won't add any functionality to owners of this camera, as it already comes with one of them. However, having two of them extends your camera's life away from a recharger more than adequately (by 100%, obviously enough). It also gives you greater reliability when transferring images onto a PC, and you can have one charging whilst you use the other.I have had no problems with the unit itself. It's the same 840mAh capacity as the standard issue, which for me has usually lasted a day's social photography using the LCD always and flash as required. It charges in 2 hours max and fits nicely in the official case also available from Canon. What else can be said? It's only a battery after all. But it's worked perfectly for me, and enhanced my experience of digital photography.
