| Customer Reviews: A high-quality charger August 24, 2010 JB (Chudleigh, Devon) I'm very pleased with the charger. M Flury's 27 April 2007 review remains accurate and is very detailed, so I won't even attempt to match his excellent review.
However, I would suggest taking the time to read the manual; there are lots of useful tips which go beyond the obvious. I found the supplied instructions very small, so I downloaded a copy (have a search for 'manual charger rs-900 +pdf') which you can zoom in on if your eyesight needs a boost.
The only minor niggle is that mine came with a 'Euro' 2 pin plug and a 3 pin adapter.
Recommended.
Not your avearage battery charger. February 6, 2010 N. Aucott (Midlands UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This battery charger is ideal if you want to diagnose your batteries and check if they have any capacity. The included manual is not that great to follow but once you know how to use it is very simple to use, will charge, will test (discharge and charge and tell you an average of the capacity) will refresh (discharge and charge and capacity read out) and will discharge only.
The only thing I was disapointed with is the fact it is obviously not intended for the UK market as it comes with a euro to UK adapter for the transormer.
La Crosse Battery Charger January 6, 2010 Tonysin (Wick Scotland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an exellent product as it charges the batteries to a lwvel that most chargers don't and quicker.
With the digital display you can see what is happening as you go along Ie voltage and life.
With carrier bag included you can take the charger with you with the enclosures for the batteries you can take plent of spares too.
Excellent charger - but I foolishly did not realise that it does not charge 9v or D batteries August 30, 2008 Kieran Madden 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a damn good charger. Unfortunately I mis-read the description and did not realise that it is limited to charging only AA & AAA batteries. I could have really done with being able to recharge 9v batteries but this was entirely my fault and, unlike other reviewers, I will not give a product a 1-star rating because I made a mistake.
I've little to add to the very thorough review below. The charger does exactly what it says on the tin. Some battery reviews I've read involved the reviewer using a home-built charger to do everything this charger does. In fact, I've not come across many other chargers that are quite so feature-packed.
Since Lithium-Ion batteries in standard sizes are not available, possibly due to the risk of them accidentally being charged in the wrong charger and exploding, Ni-MH batteries need looking after properly. Despite manufacturer's claims, Ni-MH batteries do suffer from a memory effect if regularly recharged before being fully drained. With most chargers, the user has to ensure that the batteries are completely flat before recharging, something that is sometimes impossible and almost always a pain. This charger ensures that your investments will be properly looked after and will last as long as possible.
If you're wanting to charge D or 9v batteries then I recommend the Eco Battery Wizard. Don't bother recharging alkaline batteries with it - that's just a fool's game; and likewise, ignore the reviewer that gave it just 1 star because, unsurprisingly, he had a bad experience trying to do just that.
Useful little charger.... April 27, 2007 M. Flury 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
If you want a straightforward 'intelligent' charger this might be a little over the top. But if are like me a heavy battery user, it might be worth getting.
I got one of these (Technoline brand, which is the UK version but the instructions for both are the same) so I could charge and 'pair' batteries for a power hungry gadget, as well as acting as a compact travel charger.
Pairing means checking the capacity of batteries and using those with similar capacities in the same 'set', so they run out around the same time. Useful if you use a manual charger, as you can be a little more accurate as regards charging times.
The 1800mA charge is for charging 1 or 2 AA batteries only. The maximum for charging 4 batteries at a time (any combination of sizes or whether they are nimh or nicads) is 1000mA. As per my previous review of a fast charger, (Uniross Sprint) make sure your batteries can accept such a high charge rate, some can't. I would charge any nicads (whether AA or AAA sizes) at the lowest (default) setting which is 200mA.
Power supply and charger are reasonably lightweight, also switch mode (100-240V). Just add a plug adapter for use abroad. On inserting batteries the display gives you their actual voltage, you then have 8 seconds to choose the charge rate (200, 500, 700 and 1000mA, plus 1500 & 1800mA if only 1-2 AA's charged), otherwise uses the default setting of 200mA, which is good for a gentle charge of AAA's. I would use 500mA max for AA's, which stops the batteries getting too hot unless you are in a hurry to recharge them. You can change settings for different charge/discharge modes (see below) while batteries are 'in situ', although the charge/discharging rates won't change from what they were originally.
Charger has 3 other functions besides standard charging: discharge function (half the charge rate set: if set at 200mA charge rate; discharge is 100mA); refresh function (discharge & charge cycle), useful once in a while for unused Nimhs and a test mode, which repeatedly charges & discharges the batteries until it can no longer determine any increase in the capacity. This is good for refreshing nicads when they don't seem to last as long as they did before, but can take several hours, if the charge rate is set low.
Each of the 4 channels can be individually set to a different task, but the charging rate set at the beginning can't be changed for all of the channels, but you can charge at 1000mA and discharge/test/refresh at 500mA. To change the charge rate, remove and replace the batteries, remembering you have 8 seconds (display flashes) to change the charge rate.
You get a useful little carry-case, 4 C and 4 D cell adaptors, (useful if you infrequently use something that uses either size of those batteries, but not worth buying any), mains supply and 2 instruction booklets ('quick' start and full). I would suggest reading the full version (it is a little thick, but other languages included apart from English) to fully appreciate what it can do.
I found the buttons on mine to be a little unyielding, you need to press firmly to toggle the display or whatever, but I'd rather they are stiff and too loose, as if you accidentially press something, it will upset whatever you've programmed it to do.
A neat charger with some very useful functions.
