| Customer Reviews: Great little charger July 29, 2010 Scottykb (England) This is a great little charger. It comes with four AA rechargeable batteries and has an adapter to plug the charging unit in via the mains, as well as an adapter to plug the unit in in a car, which is a nice touch. The charging unit itself is compact, and not having the plug unit built into it as many chargers do, has the advantage that it can plug into sockets easily. I've had problems in the past with larger chargers that have the plug built in as they take up too much room on a double socket meaning that when in use the spare socket hasto be empty because the unit is that wide. This charger has none of these problems. As for the batteries supplied, they last ages in a Wii remote, Xbox controller etc and are very good quality. I've have a pack of these same batteries that I've been using for over three years and are still brilliant.
Battery did not work July 11, 2010 Jeff when i tried the batteries only 2 out of the 4 worked. the charger is fine but only 2 batteries worked when i payed for the price of 4!
Does What It Says On The Packet June 1, 2010 J. Ritchie (Norfolk, UK) OK, it's a battery charger - dull, boring, sits in a corner and just gets on with its job.
It's not going to be a talking point around the house, it just gets on with charging batteries.
You can put in AA or AAA batteries in pairs and use a switch to indicate if you're charging 2 or 4 batteries. Switch it on and away it goes. Simples.
It's not an ultra-fast charger (those that charge in about an hour) and my experience shows 3 to 4 hours is about average for charging 2200 mAh batteries. If you need recharged batteries in double quick time, then avoid this charger. However, if you've got a few hours spare before you need some batteries, this charger is hard to beat at the price with the performance it delivers.
An added advantage to this charger is that it will take AA or AAA in the same slot without you having to move anything - my other charger needs a bar to be flipped down before it will take AAA batteries, which is getting more and more awkward as time goes on. With the UniRoss charger, you just plug and go. When the green light shows, it's finished, and it stops putting charge through the batteries. It's so easy to use, you don't notice how good it is.
I unplug the charger when not in use as it still draws a current but, apart from that, this charger does everything a charger should and does it so well you don't notice it's there.
Not So Happy Yet May 14, 2010 Mr. G. E. Shazell 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well they eventually arrived, not Amazons fault.
I wasnt in the 1st attempt (& a signature was reqd.)
Then supposed to arrive Monday but hadnt been put on Van, then Tuesday they arrived just after 8pm.
Put 2 in canon camera...gone flat already, not even taken a shot, yet the blurb says they come charged & their selling point is that they hold their charge.
On charge now...we will see....
Bit of an issue identified! May 1, 2010 Rob (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was not going to bother reviewing this product, because of the number of good reviews already submitted, but I have just discovered an issue with the charger which other users and prospective purchasers will want to know about.
The smart charger charges batteries in pairs, and shows a red light when charging. When batteries are charged, the light turns green and the unit stops pumping current through the batteries to prevent damage.
HOWEVER, I have just discovered that if you pop four batteries in the unit, the charger will show a green light when only ONE PAIR is charged, even if the other pair has not finished charging yet. The result of this is that you might take out all your batteries thinking they are charged, when only two of them are.
Just prior to writing this review I put four batteries in to charge, which we'll call Pair 1 and Pair 2. They all got a green light after about 30 minutes. I then took Pair 2 out, and the light turned red. Pair 1 took another 2 hours of charging to get a green light. By this time I was suspicious so I took out Pair 1 and put Pair 2 back in. Red light! For another half an hour!
This is of course very inconvenient as it means that to be certain your batteries are charged to the same level, you need to charge them in single pairs. However I must stress that the batteries perform so well that it really is worth putting up with this minor annoyance if you haven't kept track of which batteries have had more use than others.
The hybrio batteries themselves are excellent; I am phasing out all other brands and now have 16 of the 2100mAh AA-sized hybrios which are mainly used for high demand photographic equipment. Hybrios use Ni-MH cells which are quick to charge, quick to cycle (great for flashguns), and the hybrid technology means that they do not discharge quickly when not in use.
Other than the issue mentioned above, the charger is not bad at all. With 2100mAh batteries it takes about 3 hours to do a full charge from empty. It comes with a standard power plug, but also a car cigarette lighter adaptor, which was thoughtful of Uniross. The only other bug bear is that it is not quite smart enough to know how many batteries are in it, and you must manually change a selector switch between "2" and "4" to tell it.
All in all this is a great product, and the issue above should not put you off.
Also see my review on the Uniross 2 x D Converter set if you plan to buy it, because that kit also has a slight issue!
