I went for a Canon original as a second battery, despite the price, and I have not been disappointed.
If you have an expensive camera why compromise when it comes to the battery.

This genuine Canon battery performs brilliantly on my Canon 5D Mk2. Over 1,000 shots yesterday and it is half full - or half empty! This camera also offers additional info on the condition of the battery which is also a bonus.

Needed a spare battery for my 7D. Was reluctant to spend this sort of money on a battery but I guess the type and technology inside warrants this. Was unable to find a cheaper non-Canon one, and even if I had may have not wanted to potentially wreck a £1,000+ camera just for the sake of saving a few pounds.
Much cheaper from Amazon than on the high street, so recommended.

Without doubt these batteries are the best I've come across, yes they're way overpriced but what you get for that is between 600 and 700+ shots per charge.
I panicked a little when I ordered my 5D ii before checking out batteries first,and realising 3rd party batteries are not totally welcome in the 5D, I did however order 2 3rd party batteries with their own charger before I'd completed one charge cycle on the 5D.
I needn't have bothered,before they even had arrived I was on 400+ shots with 41% of life left, staggering!
I promptly ordered a spare genuine battery to compliment the supplied battery in the 5Dii, and can't see me ever running out within one day.
The amount of shots you get out of a charge will depend on the way you are shooting, lots of long exposures will get you less shots per cycle,while rapid shutter speed and continuous shooting will yield more, (I recently managed 1208 shots shooting a fashion show,were as on the other end of the scale, a lot of long exposures would limit me to around 500)
The only downside of course is the cost, shame on Canon for this, but I feel once you've bitten your tongue about the price, you'll soon forget what was paid and be more than happy with the performance of the product.
I don't think the 3rd party one's will ever get to see my precious 5D.
Highly recommended 5* from me, even with the price.
