| Customer Reviews: Good (but expensive) March 14, 2010 S. Hann (London) I wanted to get a spare battery to go with a newly-purchased Cannon D7.
With my previous Canon (500D) I used cheap non-Canon batteries which worked just fine, so my first thought was to look around for substitute batteries.
I couldn't immediately find any substitutes, so I settled for the time being with another 'official' Canon battery.
One advantage of using a genuine Canon battery is that it does 'talk' to the camera, and will allow the camera to tell you about the condition of the battery.
For example, the battery is telling the camera at the moment that:
(a) It has 81% power remaining,
(b) It has processed 308 exposures so far, and
(c) It's 're-charge' capability is 'perfect'.
Whether it's worth paying for this information, I'm not really sure.
I must admit that the capacity of the battery does seem rather good, though.
However, I'd like to think that it won't be long before some non-Canon batteries will be available at 10% the cost of the original.
Oh yes. Charge time -- about two-and-a-half hours from dead.
Great Battery March 10, 2010 P. French (UK) Great battery as you'd expect from Canon - just a pity they have to be so expensive!! I was tempted to buy a compatible as I have had good experience with compatibles with my Canon 400D - Unfortunately though compatibles aren't recognised by the camera so they will show as empty - even though the battery may be fully charged! Hopefully with 2 genuine batteries, I shouldn't need anymore. BTW - This is also compatible with the 7D - for some reason it is never advertised as such.
Expensive but necessary kit for your eos 5d mk2 February 24, 2010 Mr. P. Higgins (Manchester, England) I was in two minds as to pay what seems like a large amount of money just for another canon branded battery or pay a lot less for a brandless replacement. It took a while but I'm glad I finally went for the canon, after all if you're going to spend the best part of 2k on a high quality camera like the mk2 then you really should have the best for a back up battery. There's nothing worse than being out on a shoot only to find your battery is about to die or memory card is full.
At least with the canon battery you know what performance and reliabilty to expect, with unbranded replacement batteries you don't get accurate power level information and you have to carry around a second charger as they don't usually work with the canon unit.
To sum up, a must have.
I always like to have a spare February 21, 2010 C. Isaac (Herts, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the standard battery for the Canon 5d2 and 7d. I have the latter and bought it as a contingency. However - for that particular shoot the original didn't run out - these things seem to last for aeons. Despite this I am still confident that I will genuinely need it later this year and am always happier with a fully charged spare in my bag. And while there are always brand X alternatives to be had for less, having spent many £££s on my photographic implement of choice, this seems an unobjectionable price to me for the genuine article.
Needless to say - delivery was as expected and nothing to fault with Amazon as usual.
5D Mk2 battery February 16, 2010 Christopher J. Adby (uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent product and by far the cheapest on the net. Do not buy an aftermarket battery for your Rolls Royce of cameras. Cheap batts won't charge in the factory charger and won't communicate with your camera, i.e. no battery level indicator.
